"Four Green Fields" refers to Ireland and its four provinces, as personified by a "proud old woman" (Mother Ireland) in a famous song by Tommy Makem. The song uses the metaphor of her "green fields" to represent these provinces, lamenting that one is still in the hands of "strangers" (a reference to British rule), despite the sacrifices of her "sons" who fought to keep them. #tommymakem #fourgreenfields #LiamClancy | Irish Ballads
