The U.S. has sought to limit Iran’s ability to control the Strait of Hormuz after President Donald Trump announced the temporary ceasefire was “over” a week ago.

The US military on Wednesday launched its second wave of attacks of the day against Iran, its regional command CENTCOM said on X. The attacks began at 3 pm US Eastern Time (1900 GMT), CENTCOM said.

The United States has intensified its strikes targeting Iran, hitting targets further north. American forces also fired into a ship it accused of trying to break its naval blockade on the Islamic Republic.

The US conducted a fourth straight day of strikes as President Trump walked back his proposal to impose tolls on ships in the Strait of Hormuz.

The US conducted new strikes hours after a major air assault on Iran. Tehran targeted Gulf nations over the weekend.

The U.S. has reimposed a naval blockade on Iran and intensified its airstrike campaign in retaliation for Tehran’s attacks on ships trying to pass through the Strait of Hormuz.

“The conflict between the United States and Iran has entered a new phase,” retired U.S. Vice Admiral Robert Murrett told Newsweek.

U.S. Central Command said it completed a five-hour mission of strikes against Iranian targets as service members are gearing up to reimpose a naval blockade Tuesday.
