President Donald Trump says he is holding off on a military strike on Iran planned for Tuesday because “serious negotiations” are underway to end the war.

President Trump has considered himself an effective dealmaker above all else, but he appears to have hit a wall with Iran as his tough talk, threats and even military action haven't moved Tehran from its long-established positions.

The Iranian proposal also calls for maintaining the right to enrich uranium and “peaceful nuclear activities,” after Trump touted that “serious negotiations” were ongoing.

The U.S. launched a new barrage of strikes on Iran. Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth said the bombs were necessary to get the deal Trump wants from Iran.

The deal was expected to open the Strait of Hormuz, lift the U.S. naval blockade on Iranian ports and pave the way for further talks. It did not address Iran’s nuclear program.
