President Donald Trump says he is holding off on a military strike on Iran planned for Tuesday because “serious negotiations” are underway to end the war.
President Trump has considered himself an effective dealmaker above all else, but he appears to have hit a wall with Iran as his tough talk, threats and even military action haven't moved Tehran from its long-established positions.
The deal was expected to halt fighting for 60 days, open the Strait of Hormuz and lift the U.S. naval blockade on Iranian ports. But it would leave the thorniest nuclear issues for another day.
The Iranian proposal also calls for maintaining the right to enrich uranium and “peaceful nuclear activities,” after Trump touted that “serious negotiations” were ongoing.
