Democratic Rep. Eric Swalwell of California announced Monday he will resign from Congress following multiple sexual assault allegations that prompted bipartisan calls for him to step down.

Rep. Eric Swalwell announced his resignation from Congress following a bombshell Chronicle report and the collapse of his California governor campaign.

The Democrat’s resignation comes after he also suspended his campaign to be California’s governor in light of allegations made by four women.

The news comes a day after the Democratic lawmaker ended his California gubernatorial campaign.
