The catcher beat initial expectations for a return from knee surgery by more than two weeks. That's more than other injured Mets can say.
The 24-year-old Alvarez has been sidelined since May 12 with a torn meniscus in his right knee. Through 37 games played and 128 plate appearances this season, Alvarez owns a slash line of .241/.317/.393 with four home runs and an OPS+ of 100.

Mets catcher Francisco Alvarez needs surgery to repair a torn right meniscus in his right knee, and New York manager Carlos Mendoza hopes he could return in six-to-eight weeks following his fourth trip to the injured list since the start of 2024.
