The man was fishing when he was bitten by a shark, police say.

The permanent surveillance comes after new mum Leah Stewart, 35, was mauled by a 3.5 metre great white while swimming between the flags, 30 metres from the shore on Saturday morning.

Beaches in the city’s eastern suburbs reopened on Monday – two days after Ms Stewart was attacked, reigniting calls about NSW’s shark mitigation strategies.
