BEIRUT/JERUSALEM, June 3 (Reuters) - Israeli drone strikes killed at least six people in southern Lebanon and targeted a car just south of Beirut on Wednesday, Lebanese security sources said, while Israel said it intercepted a hostile aircraft likely fired by Hezbollah.

Pakistan, Qatar, Turkey and Egypt, have been working to help bridge differences between the U.S. and Iran and encourage efforts aimed at reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.

Lebanon’s army chief Rodolphe Haykal left for Pakistan in a surprise visit as relentless fighting continues.

BEIRUT, May 28 (Reuters) - An Israeli strike hit a building in the southern suburbs of the Lebanese capital on Thursday, the first strike to hit near Beirut in weeks amid a ceasefire that has failed to halt fighting between Israeli troops and Hezbollah in south Lebanon.

Tensions have been increasing in southern Lebanon, where Israeli troops recently crossed the strategic Litani River, which the Israeli military has used as a de facto boundary. Large areas to the south are under Israeli military control, despite the Washington-brokered ceasefire from April 17.

Pakistan’s interior minister is in Tehran to restart negotiations between Iran and the U.S. The visit comes as the American military reported shooting down two more Iranian drones over the Strait of Hormuz.
