Emergency responders arrived to find the hikers already deceased on the trails, according to the National Park Service.

An 18-year-old died last week on a hike deep in the Grand Canyon, after showing symptoms of heat-related illness, the National Park Service said.

The announcement comes just weeks after an 18-year-old hiker died on the Bright Angel Trail, and days before a heat wave could drive temperatures at Phantom Ranch to 111 degrees.

Hikers were on trails in the Inner Canyon, where officials said temperatures in the shade could reach 109 degrees around midday.
