The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, meanwhile, added a banner notice on its outbreak update webpage saying that the agency was “aware” of the two cases. But its reporting data was not updated to include the two deaths as of this publication.

The U.S. is experiencing at least four ongoing cyclosporiasis outbreaks, federal health officials have reported.

Another nasty foodborne illness is rapidly spreading across the country, sickening 345 people in 27 states so far — as the deadly explosive diarrhea-causing cyclosporiasis outbreak is still running rampant.

In comments to Ars Technica on Monday, a spokesperson for the Department of Health and Human Services, which oversees CDC and FDA, said the outbreak information will be updated sometime “this week.” Sources for The New York Times said that the CDC plans to set up a “formal response team” for the outbreak sometime this week.

The deadly cyclospora outbreak has now spread to 47 states, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced Tuesday. The CDC said in an Aug. 4 update that 10,468 cases have now been confirmed by laboratories for the “explosive diarrhea” parasite that causes cyclosporasis.

Manatee County reported more cyclosporiasis cases while Sarasota held steady as Florida's statewide outbreak grew to 342 cases.
