With a dangerous Ebola outbreak growing in the Democratic Republic of Congo and the United States playing a smaller role than in past crises, attention is turning to China and whether it is willing to take on a larger global health leadership role.

The Ebola outbreak has crossed 500 infected cases as the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) has reported a total of 488 cases and Uganda another 19.

In one worst-case scenario projected, more than 20,000 cases would occur within three months if only 1 in 5 infected people are identified and isolated within two days.

A new Ebola outbreak in a remote province in Congo has caused 65 deaths and 246 suspected cases so far, Africa CDC says.

The drop in aid assistance to combat Ebola has contributed to the spread of the latest outbreak, say doctors in the field and those with experience fighting the virus.

On May 15, the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention confirmed that a new outbreak of Ebola virus disease has begun in the Democratic Republic of Congo’s Ituri province. In previous outbreaks,

The ministry believes that the risk of an Ebola outbreak in Israel remains low, but has started preparations in the event that someone suspected to be infected arrives in the country.
