With a dangerous Ebola outbreak growing in the Democratic Republic of Congo and the United States playing a smaller role than in past crises, attention is turning to China and whether it is willing to take on a larger global health leadership role.

The drop in aid assistance to combat Ebola has contributed to the spread of the latest outbreak, say doctors in the field and those with experience fighting the virus.

On May 15, the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention confirmed that a new outbreak of Ebola virus disease has begun in the Democratic Republic of Congo’s Ituri province. In previous outbreaks,

Democratic Republic of Congo said on Friday that 71 new Ebola cases were confirmed in a 24-hour period and warned of rapid community transmission of the deadly disease.

"The people here don't believe that there is Ebola."

The ministry believes that the risk of an Ebola outbreak in Israel remains low, but has started preparations in the event that someone suspected to be infected arrives in the country.

Dozens of people have died and hundreds have been sickened in an Ebola outbreak centered in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Scientists believe Ebola viruses naturally exist in some wild animals, with bats considered one of the likely hosts.
