A planned joint U.S.-Canada ceremony to celebrate the opening of the Gordie Howe International Bridge has been canceled after President Donald Trump announced new tariffs on Canadian goods.

A Friday ribbon-cutting ceremony between Canadian and American officials on the Windsor side of the new bridge has been nixed after new tariffs.

"It would be inappropriate to proceed with a celebratory event between the two countries," said a spokesperson for Canadian Infrastructure Minister Gregor Robertson.
