Two teenage gunmen opened fire outside the Islamic Center of San Diego in California on Monday, killing three men, including a security guard, police said. Authorities are probing the attack as a suspected hate crime targeting Muslims.

Five people are dead including two gunmen who police said entered the Islamic Center of San Diego on Monday morning and opened fire.

Officers began receiving calls before noon about a shooting outside the mosque, police said.

"There was definitely hate rhetoric that was involved," SDPD Chief Scott Wahl said of the ongoing investigation.
